I've been exploring drawing directly with a sumi stick onto the paper and have completed several new figure and portrait paintings this month and will continue to update my Gallery Juana on Etsy shop throughout September.

I love how the mark making remains even when I follow with watercolor and acrylic inks.  The result is a figurative nearly abstract painting of a body seemingly made of metal.

"Sumi ink etches the first movements—a skeletal whisper beneath the skin of acrylic reds, browns, and blacks. It’s a landscape of raw exposure, with the torso and thighs thrust forward, stripped of arms, disempowered but somehow defiant in its stark vulnerability."  AI generated art critique

Shadows and Challenging your Boundaries

For the first couple of months in our new rental house, Sputnik would plant herself at the top of the stairs and cry for me to come back upstairs. We tried different methods of coaxing her into coming downstairs and decided time would tell. One day as I was in the kitchen, I saw something move across the floor and realized it was my cat. She had made it downstairs on her own. Now she explores the whole house, usually at night, when all is quiet. She's reminded me that sometimes the limitations I think I have are all in my mind.
Welcome to my online art journal. This is where I share my journal pages, works in progress, notes on my art process, perspectives and musings. I’ll also post shop updates of finished paintings along with some expansion on each art work. It's a chance to meet the Gallery Juana Artist and owner. If you are interested in purchasing my art work, please visit my https://galleryjuana.etsy.com shop.
